"New" Blog

OK...It's really just a combination of 2 of my old blogs. One had pictures, the other had zero pictures, then I posted a video on the "no pictures" blog, and figured it was time to update and archive, and such.

Enjoy!

It Might Get Loud

So...I was watching It Might Get Loud which is about contemporary guitar players: Jimmy Page, The Edge, and Jack White. It is commonly said that when you read, you bring all your own experience with you to the reading. My experience with music is largely vocal. And while I was watching this documentary, this is the music that I was thinking about.

I don't know where that came from. I haven't listened to this song in about 5 years.

Hope you like the song. Not much that I can explain to you about it.

Telling Stories

This evening, I went to see Telling Stories: Norman Rockwell from the Collections of Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, at the Smithsonian American Museum of Art. It was a great exhibit. I enjoyed seeing the charcoal versions of some of the paintings next to the final paintings. Some of the drawings were completed years before they were in final format. There were some of my old favorites, and many that I had never seen before. I really liked the one called, "Jo Seated on the Old Sofa." It's a picture of Jo March from Little Women.

If you are in DC and have a chance to see it before January 2, 2011, I recommend stopping by the museum. Or wait until the exhibit visits a city near you.

The Renoir Hat

It has been a while and I am finally getting around to documenting my big project of February 2010 which was making the Renoir Hat.

This is the Renoir Hat in progress.

And the finished hat at 12:30 a.m. after I finished trying it on and making sure it looked like a hat in the mirror.

Currently Reading: The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton

I am reading The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton and it is getting really interesting. I like the character development. Lily Bart gets herself into some strange situations. I think it's interesting to see all the social customs that were important in the late 1800's.

Craft Night

So Mare, Jane, Mom, and I started gathering for craft nights on the second Friday of the month back in November. Jill and Linda have joined us and just this past week, Julie and her mom and her sister and her niece joined us for craft night. I think these gatherings are really fun. And I get so much stuff done. And sometimes even get to help people with their projects, too. Very excited about all my upcoming creative projects.

Finally Finished: The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James

I finally finished reading The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James. I really liked it, it just took me a really long time to read. I thought Isabel Archer was a great character and I enjoyed seeing how she thought about things.

It's January 31st and my New Year's resolution is done. I'm glad to be moving on to other books now, but I think I will miss The Portrait of a Lady. When a book is with you that long, it is almost sad when you get to the end.

Transition: Living Room

My poor living room has been through a lot this past year.

This is how the living room looked in November. This was after it had weathered the Great Air Conditioner Fiasco of '09. The living room just keeps pulling through remarkably well.

And here is how the living room looks today: new couch, new chair, happy lighting. There is still more to be done, but the living room is looking nice and comfortable.
